FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Triride Kids Wheelchair Power Attachment?

The Triride Kids is a powered attachment designed for compatible children's manual wheelchairs. It attaches to the front of the wheelchair to provide powered propulsion, helping create a more versatile powered mobility setup while retaining the child's manual wheelchair.

How does the Triride Kids work?

The Triride Kids connects to a compatible manual wheelchair using an appropriate attachment system. Once correctly fitted, the powered front wheel provides propulsion and is operated using the Triride controls.

Is the Triride Kids specifically designed for children?

The Triride Kids is designed with younger wheelchair users in mind. Whether it is suitable for an individual child will depend on factors including their age, size, abilities, wheelchair and capacity to safely operate the controls.

Will the Triride Kids fit my child's wheelchair?

Compatibility depends on the make, model, frame and configuration of the wheelchair. The correct attachment system is also important. Compatibility should therefore be confirmed for the individual wheelchair before purchasing.

How do I know if the Triride Kids is suitable for my child?

Suitability should be considered individually. Factors can include the child's physical abilities, coordination and control, wheelchair setup, intended use and the environments in which the attachment will be operated. An assessment and demonstration are recommended before purchasing.

Can we try the Triride Kids before buying?

Yes. John Preston Healthcare offers demonstrations of the Triride Kids in the UK and Ireland. A demonstration provides an opportunity to assess the product with the child's wheelchair and determine whether the controls and overall setup are appropriate.

Is a free home demonstration available for the Triride Kids?

John Preston Healthcare advertises a free home demonstration for the Triride Kids. This can be particularly helpful for families who want to assess the attachment with the child's own wheelchair and in a familiar environment before making a decision.

Does the Triride Kids turn a manual wheelchair into a powered wheelchair?

The Triride Kids adds powered propulsion to a compatible manual wheelchair through a detachable front attachment. Unlike permanently changing to a powered wheelchair, the attachment can be removed when it is not required.

Can the Triride Kids be removed from the wheelchair?

Yes. The Triride Kids is designed as a detachable wheelchair power attachment. This means the manual wheelchair can continue to be used without the powered attachment when required.

Is the Triride Kids suitable for outdoor use?

The Triride Kids can provide powered mobility for suitable outdoor journeys. The surfaces, gradients and environments appropriate for use will depend on the child's abilities, wheelchair setup and product configuration. The manufacturer's safety and operating guidance should always be followed.

How fast does the Triride Kids go?

Speed will depend on the specification and configuration of the product. For a children's wheelchair power attachment, appropriate setup and safe operation are especially important. Refer to the individual product specifications and manufacturer's instructions for speed information.

What is the range of the Triride Kids?

Battery range depends on the particular battery and configuration. Real-world range can also be affected by factors including combined user and wheelchair weight, terrain, gradients, temperature, speed and riding style. Refer to the product specifications for the stated range.

Can the speed and setup be adapted for an individual child?

The appropriate setup will depend on the Triride Kids configuration and the individual user. An assessment provides an opportunity to discuss controls, performance and other settings or options that may be relevant to the child's requirements.

Does a child need supervision when using a Triride Kids?

The appropriate level of supervision depends on the child's age, abilities, experience, environment and individual circumstances. Parents and carers should follow the manufacturer's safety guidance and any recommendations made during assessment or handover.

Can the Triride Kids be transported in a car?

As a detachable wheelchair attachment, the Triride Kids can be removed from the wheelchair for transport. Check its dimensions and weight against the available space in your vehicle and ensure that the equipment can be safely loaded, secured and transported.

Does the Triride Kids require maintenance?

Yes. The attachment should be regularly inspected and maintained according to the manufacturer's instructions. Components such as the tyre, wheel, brakes, attachment system, controls, battery and electrical connections should be kept in good working condition.

Where can I get advice about the Triride Kids?

John Preston Healthcare can provide advice about wheelchair compatibility, assessment, fitting and demonstrations of the Triride Kids. Having the exact make and model of your child's wheelchair available when enquiring can help establish the appropriate setup.
