FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Triride?

A Triride is a powered wheelchair add-on designed to attach to a compatible manual wheelchair. It provides powered assistance and a front drive wheel, offering an alternative way for wheelchair users to travel independently without permanently changing to a powered wheelchair.

How does a Triride wheelchair power add-on work?

A Triride attaches to the front of a compatible manual wheelchair using a suitable connection system. Once fitted, the powered front wheel provides propulsion while the user controls the unit using the handlebars and controls. Features and operation vary between Triride models, so refer to the specifications and manufacturer's instructions for the individual product.

Will a Triride fit my wheelchair?

Triride power add-ons can be compatible with many manual wheelchairs, but compatibility depends on the wheelchair, its frame and the attachment system required. Compatibility should always be confirmed before purchasing rather than assuming that a Triride will fit every wheelchair.

Which Triride model should I choose?

The most appropriate Triride depends on factors including your wheelchair, typical journeys, terrain, required range, portability and personal mobility requirements. Individual models can have different motors, batteries, wheels and performance characteristics, so compare the specifications carefully before choosing.

Can a Triride be removed from the wheelchair?

Yes, Triride systems are designed as detachable wheelchair power add-ons. This means the power unit can be removed from a compatible wheelchair when required. The exact attachment and removal procedure depends on the model and fitting system.

Can I use a Triride outdoors?

Triride wheelchair power add-ons are designed to provide powered mobility for outdoor journeys, although the terrain and conditions suitable for use depend on the individual model. Always follow the manufacturer's guidance regarding gradients, surfaces, weather conditions and safe operation.

Can a Triride handle hills and slopes?

The ability to negotiate hills and slopes depends on the specific Triride model as well as factors including the gradient, combined user and wheelchair weight, surface conditions and battery charge. Always observe the maximum gradient and operating limits specified for the individual model.

How far can a Triride travel on one charge?

Battery range varies between Triride models and battery options. Real-world range can also be affected by user weight, terrain, gradients, speed, temperature, tyre pressure and riding style. Check the specifications for the particular model and battery combination for the manufacturer's stated range.

How long does a Triride battery take to charge?

Charging times depend on the battery and charger supplied with the individual Triride. Follow the manufacturer's charging instructions and use the recommended charger. The battery should be charged and stored in accordance with the manufacturer's guidance.

Can I transport a Triride in a car?

Many Triride power add-ons can be detached from the wheelchair for transport. Whether a particular model is suitable for your vehicle will depend on its dimensions and weight, the available storage space and your ability to safely lift or load the equipment. Check the individual product specifications before purchasing if regular car transport is important.

How much does a Triride weigh?

Weight varies considerably across the Triride range according to the model, motor, wheel and battery configuration. Check the weight stated on the individual product page, particularly if you expect to regularly lift the unit into a vehicle or storage area.

Does a Triride need to be professionally fitted?

Correct compatibility, fitting and setup are important for safe and effective use of a wheelchair power add-on. The appropriate fitting process depends on the Triride model, attachment system and wheelchair. Follow the manufacturer's guidance and use an experienced mobility specialist where fitting or assessment is required.

Are Triride power add-ons suitable for all wheelchair users?

No single wheelchair power add-on will be suitable for everyone. Suitability depends on factors including the user's mobility, strength and control, their wheelchair, intended journeys and environment. An assessment or demonstration can be particularly valuable when choosing a powered wheelchair attachment.

Can I try a Triride before buying?

For a specialist mobility product such as a Triride, a demonstration can help establish which model and configuration best suits the user, wheelchair and intended environment. Contact John Preston Healthcare to discuss available assessment or demonstration options.

Do Triride power add-ons require maintenance?

As with other powered mobility equipment, a Triride should be regularly checked and maintained in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. Particular attention should be given to components such as the tyre, brakes, attachment system, controls, electrical connections and battery. Any faults or damage should be addressed before continued use.

Are replacement parts and accessories available for Triride products?

Accessories and replacement components may be available for Triride products, depending on the model and configuration. When ordering parts or accessories, confirm your exact Triride model and wheelchair setup to ensure compatibility.
