Transflo Gel Pressure Redistribution Cushion

The Transflo  Gel Cushion from DHCare has been developed to provide specialist pressure redistribution for people with significant pressure care requirements.

Its design combines supportive high-density foam with silicone gel, bringing together stability, postural support and pressure redistribution in one cushion. At the centre of the Transflo are two fluid-filled, vapour-permeable, multi-stretch sacs surrounded by supportive heavy-duty foam.

As the user changes position, fluid can move between the compartments, allowing the cushion to contour around the body and redistribute pressure across the widest possible surface area.

The Transflo comes as standard in one size

  • 17x17x3.5"/43x43x9cm

Other sizes available via quotation

Suitable for Very High Risk Users

Transflo Cushion is classed as Very High Risk in relation to pressure ulcer development. The wider pressure redistribution cushion guidance states that these cushions are intended for use with an appropriately sized chair or wheelchair as part of an overall pressure ulcer prevention programme of care. Cushion selection should be determined by an appropriate clinician.

This makes the Transflo particularly relevant for:

  • Wheelchair seating
  • Specialist seating
  • Community care
  • Residential and nursing care
  • Hospital environments
  • Homecare environments
  • Users requiring a high level of pressure redistribution

Appropriate clinical assessment should form part of cushion selection for users with pressure care needs.

Two-Compartment Gel Flotation System

A key feature of the Transflo is its two-compartment gel-sac design. Rather than relying solely on foam, the cushion incorporates silicone gel contained within two fluid-filled compartments. The fluid moves in response to the user's shape and position, helping the cushion contour around the body.

75% Gel Coverage

The Transflo provides 75% gel coverage across the cushion. This is designed to provide low interface pressure across a large area of the cushion.

Supports a Neutral Pelvic Position

Pressure care is only part of the Transflo's design; the cushion is designed to encourage the user to sit in a neutral pelvic tilt. The combination of supportive foam and the gel flotation system therefore provides both pressure redistribution and an element of postural management.

Cooling Gel Surface

The Transflo's gel surface also provides a cooling effect; reduction in skin-surface temperature can assist with pressure ulcer management.

Supportive CME Foam

The gel system is surrounded by high-quality CME foam.

This supportive foam helps:

  • Prevent the user bottoming out
  • Support transfers

This is an important consideration because a pressure redistribution cushion still needs to provide a stable and supportive seated surface.

Multi-Stretch Vapour-Permeable Cover

The Transflo includes a multi-stretch, vapour-permeable cover. The manufacturer states that the cover helps reduce shear and friction forces, while its vapour permeability assists with heat and moisture management. The cover is also impregnated with an anti-fungal agent to assist infection-control policies.

Washable up to 95°C

The Transflo cover can be laundered at temperatures up to 95°C. This can be particularly useful in clinical, hospital and residential care environments where robust infection-control procedures are required.

Hypochlorite Compatible

The current manufacturer specification also lists compatibility with 1,000ppm diluted / 0.1% hypochlorite solution or according to local infection-control guidelines.
