Description

Gordon Ellis Langham Adjustable Linked Chair Raiser

The Gordon Ellis Langham Adjustable Linked Chair Raiser is a robust and highly stable furniture-raising system designed specifically for fireside chairs and other suitable chairs with legs.

Part of the established Langham range of furniture raisers, the linked design provides additional stability compared with individual raising blocks. It is particularly suitable for chairs with thin legs, as the furniture is supported at the bottom of the raiser well rather than on the upper surface.

Height-adjusting insert blocks are included, allowing the chair to be raised by approximately 5–10 cm / 2–4 inches according to the user's requirements.

The latest design features black plastic linking arms, replacing the previous MDF components. These are designed to improve infection control, increase durability and allow the linking components to be autoclaved. Rounded edges also provide a neater appearance beneath the chair.

With a substantial 500 kg / 78 stone maximum weight limit, the Langham Adjustable Linked Chair Raiser provides a secure solution for people who find sitting down or standing from a low fireside chair difficult.

Important: This model is designed for fireside and suitable static chairs. It is not suitable for dining room chairs.

Helps Make Low Chairs Easier to Use

A low armchair or fireside chair can make sitting and standing more difficult for people with reduced mobility. Raising the chair can reduce the degree of hip and knee flexion required during a sit-to-stand transfer. This may be particularly helpful for people with:

  • Reduced lower-limb strength
  • Restricted hip movement
  • Restricted knee movement
  • Arthritis
  • Reduced mobility
  • Difficulty standing from low seating
  • Reduced transfer ability

The correct finished seat height should be determined according to the individual user.

Adjustable 5–10 cm / 2–4 Inch Raise

The Langham Adjustable Linked Chair Raiser provides an adjustable raise of approximately 5–10 cm / 2–4 inches. Height-adjusting insert blocks are supplied with the system. This allows the chair height to be adapted rather than restricting the user to one fixed raising height.

Linked Design for Greater Stability

A key advantage of the Langham system is its linked construction. Rather than using four completely independent raisers, the units are connected to create a more stable furniture-raising system. This makes it particularly appropriate for larger fireside chairs and armchairs where stability is an important consideration.

Designed for Fireside Chairs

The JLP Langham Adjustable Linked Chair Raiser has been specifically designed for fireside chairs and chairs supported on legs. It can accommodate a maximum chair footprint of approximately:

790 x 690 mm / 31 x 27 inches

The chair should be measured before ordering to confirm that its footprint falls within the available range.

Suitable for Thin Chair Legs

The design is particularly suitable for chairs with thin legs. Unlike furniture raisers that rely on the furniture leg resting on the top edge of the raiser, the Langham system supports the leg at the bottom of the well.

This allows relatively narrow furniture legs to be supported securely. The maximum chair-leg dimensions are approximately 64 x 76 mm / 2.5 x 3 inches

Bottom-of-Well Load Bearing

An important feature of the Langham Adjustable Linked Chair Raiser is the way the chair is supported. The load-bearing point is at the bottom of the well.

The upper part of the raiser should not be treated as the load-bearing surface. When installed correctly, the furniture leg should sit down into the raiser so that the load is transferred through the intended lower support point.

Updated Black Plastic Linking Arms

The current version of the Langham raiser uses 100% black plastic linking arms rather than the MDF arms found on older versions.

This provides several advantages:

  • Improved infection-control properties
  • Increased durability
  • Easier cleaning
  • Fully autoclavable linking components
  • More contemporary appearance
  • Rounded edges

The black finish also makes the raiser less visually prominent underneath darker chairs and furniture.

Designed with Infection Control in Mind

Replacing the previous MDF link arms with plastic provides a more practical solution for environments where cleaning and infection control are important.

This can make the current Langham raiser particularly useful in:

  • Private homes
  • Residential care
  • Nursing homes
  • Rehabilitation environments
  • Community equipment services
  • Healthcare settings

Cleaning and decontamination should always follow the manufacturer's instructions.

Rounded Link-Arm Edges

The updated link bars have rounded edges. As well as providing a more modern appearance, this reduces sharp corners beneath the furniture and creates a cleaner overall installation.

Supplied Fully Assembled

The Langham Adjustable Linked Chair Raiser is supplied fully assembled in an easy-to-fit pack. This simplifies installation compared with furniture-raising systems that require extensive assembly. The furniture itself may still be heavy, so appropriate assistance and moving-and-handling techniques should be used when fitting the raiser.

500 kg Maximum Weight Limit

The Langham Adjustable Linked Chair Raiser has a maximum weight limit of 500 kg / 78 stone / 1,100 lbs

This substantial capacity makes it suitable for many domestic and care-environment fireside chairs when correctly fitted.

The total supported load should include the weight of:

  • The chair
  • The user
  • Any additional items supported by the chair

Not Suitable for Dining Room Chairs

Dining chairs generally need to be moved towards and away from a table during use, making a different style of raiser more appropriate. For compatible dining chairs with thin legs, the Gordon Ellis Derby Leg-X may be a more appropriate solution because its domed design allows the chair to be repositioned.

Suitable for Occupational Therapy Equipment Provision

The Langham Adjustable Linked Chair Raiser is an established furniture-raising solution that has been used and assessed within occupational therapy for many years.

Its combination of:

  • Adjustable height
  • Linked stability
  • High weight capacity
  • Thin-leg compatibility
  • Straightforward fitting

makes it particularly relevant for community equipment provision and home adaptations.

Who Is the Langham Adjustable Linked Chair Raiser For?

  • Finds their fireside chair too low
  • Has difficulty standing from an armchair
  • Has reduced leg strength

  • Has restricted hip movement
  • Has restricted knee movement
  • Has arthritis or joint stiffness
  • Requires a higher transfer position
  • Uses a chair with relatively thin legs

  • Rehabilitation environments
  • Community equipment services

Why Choose the Gordon Ellis Langham Adjustable Linked Chair Raiser?

  • The Gordon Ellis Langham Adjustable Linked Chair Raiser combines adjustability with the additional stability of a linked furniture-raising system.
  • Rather than placing a separate independent block beneath each chair leg, the Langham system links the raisers together. This helps provide a secure platform beneath a compatible fireside chair.
  • Its design is particularly useful for thin furniture legs, as the chair is supported at the bottom of the raiser well rather than relying on the upper edge.
  • Included insert blocks allow the amount of raise to be adjusted between approximately 5 and 10 cm / 2 and 4 inches, helping the finished seat height to be matched more closely to the user's requirements.
  • The latest version also replaces traditional MDF linking components with durable black plastic links, improving cleaning and infection-control characteristics while providing a more contemporary appearance.
  • With a 500 kg maximum weight limit, the Langham Adjustable Linked Chair Raiser provides a robust furniture-raising solution for suitable fireside chairs.

What is the Gordon Ellis Langham Adjustable Linked Chair Raiser?

It is an adjustable furniture-raising system designed to increase the height of suitable fireside chairs and other compatible chairs with legs.

What is the JLP chair raiser?

JLP is the product reference commonly used for the Langham Adjustable Linked Chair Raiser.

What type of chair is it designed for?

It is primarily designed for fireside chairs and suitable static chairs with legs.

Is it suitable for an armchair?

It may be suitable for a fireside-style armchair where the chair footprint and leg dimensions fall within the specified limits.

Is it suitable for dining chairs?

No. The manufacturer specifically states that the JLP raiser is not suitable for dining room chairs.

Why isn't it suitable for dining chairs?

Dining chairs normally need to be moved towards and away from a table. The linked JLP is intended as a stable raising system for a static fireside chair.

How much can it raise a chair?

The height can be adjusted between approximately 2 and 4 inches / 5 and 10 cm.

How is the height adjusted?

Insert blocks are placed within the raiser system to alter the raising height.

Are the insert blocks included?

Yes. Height-adjusting insert blocks are supplied.

Can replacement insert blocks be purchased?

Yes. Replacement insert blocks for the JLP and NLP furniture raisers are available separately.

What is the maximum user weight?

The product is specified with a maximum weight limit of 500 kg / 78 stone / 1,100 lbs. This is the maximum supported load rather than simply a user-weight figure, so the weight of the furniture and other supported loads should also be considered.

What is the maximum chair footprint?

The maximum chair footprint is approximately: 790 x 690 mm / 31 x 27 inches.

What is the maximum furniture-leg size?

The maximum chair-leg dimensions are approximately 64 x 76 mm / 2.5 x 3 inches.

Is it suitable for thin chair legs?

Yes. The design is particularly suited to chairs with thin legs.

Where does the chair leg sit?

The furniture leg should be supported at the bottom of the raiser well.

Is the top of the raiser load bearing?

No. The manufacturer states that the top is not the load-bearing point.

Are the raisers linked together?

Yes. The linked design is one of the main features of the product and provides additional stability.

Is the product supplied assembled?

Yes. It is supplied fully assembled in an easy-to-fit pack.

What are the linking bars made from?

The current version uses 100% black plastic linking bars.

Why were the older MDF bars replaced?

The plastic design provides improved durability and infection-control characteristics.

Does the current version have rounded edges?

Yes. The redesigned link bars have rounded edges.

How much does the system weigh?

Product weight is approximately 3 kg.

What are the approximate product dimensions?

The individual raiser dimensions are approximately 120 x 110 x 150 mm.

Can the JLP be used for a sofa?

The JLP is specifically designed around fireside chairs. A furniture-raising system appropriate to the dimensions and support arrangement of the sofa should be selected instead.

Will raising a chair make standing easier?

For some users, increasing seat height reduces the hip and knee flexion required during sitting and standing, which can make transfers easier. The appropriate height depends on the individual.

How do I determine the correct raising height?

Consider the user's lower-leg length, mobility, transfer technique and existing seat height.

The finished height should make transfers easier while still allowing a stable and comfortable seated position.

Is an occupational therapy assessment recommended?

It can be particularly useful where the person has significant mobility, balance or transfer difficulties or where there is uncertainty about the correct finished seat height.
