Comprehensive positioning system now available in Scotland

We are delighted to announce that we can now offer the Positioning and Sleep System from leading manufacturer - Simple Stuff Works.

This comprehensive system can be used with both children and adults and our specialist staff have been trained to carry out assessments of each clients unique needs.

It can be used on any size of bed and can also be used during the day time at home, in school or out and about. Each system has two layers of non-slip mesh at its base. We then utilise the various components including pillows or various sizes, wedges and lateral supports. We also supply the cotton bed sheets which are very soft and comfortable, along with the option of a mattress topper which wicks away moisture from the skin and allows air to circulate around the user. This helps maintain a dry, temperate environment which naturally makes life more comfortable.

In 2015, the system won the award for ' Best Established Product 'from the British Healthcare Traders Association.

Some info about Simple Stuff Works;

The stabilising mesh:

The base of this award-winning sleep system starts with two layers of non-slip mesh. This can be either one layer of fitted mesh with a flat top piece, or two flat pieces if the individual is maybe sharing a bed. The flexibility of this base layer makes it one of the most dynamic parts of our system. It is between the two layers of mesh where supports are placed around an individual to create the ideal position for them. The mesh is one of the most hygienic bases for a positioning system as it is anti-microbial, complete with SteriTouch running through it, anti-mite, anti-fungal, entirely washable and conforms to Oeko-Tex Standard 100. It holds any supports firmly and is completely silent to use, making changes in position throughout the night as gentle and calm as possible. The mesh can be used to also hold other pieces of equipment in place as well as holding the individual which means that the overall positioning system is very secure whilst allowing for easy changes in position. For information on how it can be used on different sized beds please see our Care Guidance Section. It is available in a variety of sizes (6 altogether) and can be adapted for use on double beds (see Flat Stabilizing Mesh).

Basic sizes are below.

  • Single Fitted Mesh:
    • Bottom piece – 1830mm x 2500mm
  • Top Piece – 1830mm x 1000mm
    • Cot Fitted Mesh:
  • Bottom piece – 1830mm x 1300mm
  • Top piece – 1500mm x 700mm

Rather than having a fitted mesh base you can also have a flat mesh system should you prefer. This can be usedm for example, on a double bed so that a person can share their bed with their spouse, partner or child and still get the benefits of therapeutic positioning.

Sheets:

Our sheets are made from a beautiful cotton mix material which is hard wearing but lovely and soft. They are extra big and stretchy so that supports can be placed around an individual and the sheet will still conform to their body. They are available in cot bed, single, double and king sizes and they are also available in 3 colours; cream, pink and blue. We also have the option of purchasing any of our sheets in a flat form rather than fitted.

  • Cot bed: 700mm x 1400mm
  • Single bed: 900mm x 1900mm
  • Double bed: 1350mm x 1900m

Temperate Topper

Our Temperate Topper is a soft mattress topper which is used underneath the sheet on top of the layers of Stabilising Mesh. It is filled with a state of the art material which is machine washable to 90°, wicks moisture away from the skin and allows air to circulate around an individual, helping to maintain a dry, temperate environment for them to rest in. The Temperate Topper is non-dynamic, neither cooling nor warming the individual so as not to interfere with their unique temperature regulatory system. This is an essential safety feature for people who find it difficult to control their own temperature. The Temperate Topper is available in both single and cot sizes. The single size can also be used in larger beds.

Soft fibre wedges

We supply a range of options to make support for an individual within our therapeutic positioning system. We can offer padded lateral supports, firm wedges, soft wedges and a variety of pillows which can be used in any combination to make a comfortable position for the individual. Our soft fibre wedges are manufactured using a specialist fibre and are covered in a soft cotton-mix material. The fibre is highly breathable and wicks moisture away from the skin allowing the person to remain comfortable and reducing the risk of tissue damage. The wedges are tapered at one end meaning they can be used in a variety of positions and they also come in 6 different sizes.

  • SR – 16cm x 8cm x 8cm
  • MR – 28cm x 8cm x 9cm
  • LR – 37mm x 8cm x 9cm
  • SRW – 21cm x 12cm 12cm
  • MRW – 32cm x 12cm x 12cm
  • LRW – 50cm x 12cm x 12cm

Padded lateral supports

Our padded lateral supports are perfect for providing firmer support for an individual using our therapeutic positioning equipment. They are L shaped with soft, washable, removable pads which cover them. These are then positioned in between the two layers of mesh which hold them in place securely. They can also be used to support other items such as legs supports or pillows.

  • Small – 100mm x 100mm x 100mm
  • Medium – 140mm x 140mm x 140mm
  • Large – 200mm x 200mm x 200mm

Supine Stabiliser

The Supine Stabilizer is a leg support piece which is designed to help an individual to keep a neutral, supine position for long periods of time. It is worn above the knees, across the thighs, and it stabilizes the pelvis and the femora. Our Supine Stabilizer Comes in 5 sizes, from infant to adult, and it also comes in a range of 3 colours; cream, blue and pink. It is entirely washable and simple to use making it one of our most popular support options.

Multi-plane stabiliser

Our New Multi-Plane Stabilizer is a beautifully dynamic leg support piece which supports an individual’s legs in a therapeutic position. It has the ability to either internally or externally rotate the legs depending on what position would be beneficial for the individual, as well providing a nice level of abduction of the hips to keep them comfortable and in joint. It is also multi-sized, meaning it can grow with someone and does not need to be replaced as often.

Side lying leg support

Our Side Lying Leg Support is designed to protect the hips and pelvis when a person is lying on their side. The leg channel creates a perfect place for the top leg to lie and the bottom leg wraps gently around the outside. When combined with lots of support along the person’s back, a lovely, supportive, side lying position can be achieved. This is perfect for individuals who need to lie on their side for safety reasons. The Side Lying Leg Support comes in 3 different sizes and a choice of 3 colours.

  • Size 1 = 380mm length x 300mm depth with a leg groove of 120mm at widest point and 500mm at narrowest
  • Size 2 = 600mm length x 400mm depth with a leg groove of 120mm at widest point and 80mm at narrowest
  • Size 3 = 600mm length x 400mm depth with a  leg groove of 140mm at widest point and 100mm at narrowest

Foot supports

Our Foot Supports are beautiful, soft, products which hold the feet in a neutral position for long periods of time. They are made from the same fibre as our Temperate Toppers so they help to keep the feet feeling fresh whilst they are protected from falling forwards or rotating.

Plastazote wedges

Our Plastazote Wedges are a great addition to our award-winning positioning system. They are much firmer than our fibre wedges and they are also completely washable making them perfect for multi-use settings.

Lateral supports for Air-Flow mattresses

When someone is using an Air-Flow or Low-Air Loss mattress it is very important that supports are adapted in order to ensure that the individual still gets the maximum benefit from their mattress. For this reason we do not use the mesh base system or topper in this situation and, instead, we adapt our supports to include mesh to be used directly on top of the mattress. Our Lateral Supports with mesh are firm supports which can be used in the same way our regular Lateral Supports are used but they go directly on to the pressure mattress. The mesh is inbuilt in to the padded cover meaning it can grip the mattress and goes directly under the sheet as can be seen in the images here.

  • Small – 100mm x 100mm x 100mm
  • Medium – 140mm x 140mm x 140mm
  • Large – 200mm x 200mm x 200mm

Fibre wedges for Air-Flow mattresses:

Our fibre wedges with mesh are a soft support which can be used in the same way our regular wedges are used but they go directly on to the pressure mattress.
