Zinger wheelchair review - is it right for you?

The Zinger range is no longer available, check out our alternative folding electric wheelchairs here or our best sellers below.

One of our most popular folding electric wheelchairs is the Zinger - this is really well known by those on the look out for a convenient electric wheelchair that folds.

So what is it like? How does it work and is it suitable?

First of all the Zinger is powered by levers on each side so any user will need to be able to operate these levers independently to retain control of the Zinger.

If you only have the use of one arm then the Zinger will not be suitable for your needs. These levers control a simple traction drive system and are used instead of a joystick. The control panel can be located on either your right or left side and you can choose this at the time of ordering.

To go forward you simply push the levers down - pulling the levers up will either turn or stop the Zinger so you will feel in control while using this.

It is intuitive and does offer excellent maneuverability - this is ideal for offices or while using the Zinger indoors or around the house.

It is powered by a lightweight Lithium battery which can be removed really easily - this seems to help when folding your Zinger to pop into the boot of your car. It only weighs 1kg and the whole Zinger weighs just 17.5kg including the battery.

This means you shouldn't need a boot hoist to load it into your car and the Zinger itself folds in literally just a few seconds.

Previously the Zinger came without armrests but customer demand meant that the manufacturers decided to include the armrests as standard. These are still low enough that you can access any standard table or workstation and the armrests will go underneath leaving you free to work at your computer or what ever else is on your desk.

The Zinger can reach speeds of 6mph which is ample for most people's needs and the manufacture gives a projected range of 8 miles in normal conditions. As always this is dependent on terrain, weather and the weight of the user but our previous customers have been getting these distances.

The Zinger has a maximum user weight of just under 19 stone ( 18.89 stone ) and we have found that the battery re-charges in well under 4 hours.

Our view:

If you have good upper body control and use of both arms then this is a fantastic product that can be used both indoors and outdoors. It offers convenience and practicality and means you can do what you need to do without having to think too much about your equipment.
