What is the best folding electric wheelchair?
Thankfully now there are some great bits of kit now available – Folding Powerchairs that fold easily and can be brought with you in the boot of your car, or brought on holiday via plane, coach or train.
You need to have a think about what type of control system is best for your needs;
- Would you need or prefer to use a joystick to control and steer?
- Do you need Attendant Controls on the back of the chair?

You should also spend some time thinking about who will be folding your electric wheelchair. Their weight is a testament to the high level of engineering and detailed thought that has went into the design – but they are still around 23kg.
This is not an insignificant weight and it is worthwhile trying to lift this weight in a real world environment to see if you can do this.

Any battery needs to be less than 300 watts to be automatically approved for airline travel. We always recommend that you contact your own airline for confirmation and clarification.

Storage in the car:
Your Foldachair® D10 can be placed easily into the boot of your car although you will need to consider if you can lift it on your own or whether you need to consider a hoist – we can help advise on this too.
Flying with your FOLDACHAIR® D10
The Civil Aviation Authority restricts the battery capacity of any products containing Lithium Ion batteries to a maxium of 300 WH and they do not make an exception for mobility equipment.
The FOLDACHAIR® D10 comes as standard with 2 x 24 V x 7Ah batteries which is 336 WH.
If you are flying you should therefore remove all but one of the battery packs before flying to reduce the battery capacity to 168 WH.
Please bear in mind that this will at least half the range of your D10.
You should always check ahead with individual airlines to check their own policies before booking your flight.

How does it fold?
Very easily is the answer!
1 – Switch off and remove the joystick
2 – Place the joystick in the backrst pocket and remove the cushion
3 – Fold backrest down and then pull both armrests towards the back in an anti clockwise direction
4 – Pull the two black toggles at the back together
5 – Push down on the seat frame until it fully flattens
6 – That is it!

It weighs 23kg and the easy controls allow you to adjust the speed and control your direction. It is highly manoeuvrable and turns on its own axis – meaning it is ideal for use around home or for use in the office.
The joystick means that reversing and turning couldn’t be easier and the electromagnetic brake stops the Joyrider folding electric wheelchair instantly – even on an incline.
Folding your Joy Rider wheelchair is so easy – just pull the cord and fold or unfold in just two seconds.

The Lithium Ion battery is easily removed and you do have the option of purchasing an additional battery which can easily be put in place and increases your range.
The Lithium battery can be charged on or off the chair, so if your Joyrider is in the boot of the car, the battery can be brought inside to be charged.
A full charge takes around four hours and will get you a range of up to 8 miles.

The Freedom chair comes with an airline approval certificate and they make a tremendous day chair for excursions or use on a cruise ship. The battery is under 300 watts which means it is approved for airline travel but we strongly advise you contact your airline prior to travel to verify their policy.
It comes with an under seat zip bag, and a wrap around travel bag as standard. The materials and cushioning is easily removed for cleaning.
